The Internet no longer a safe place.

October 20th, 2006 Posted in Chronicles

The Internet is no longer a safe place as the ever growing violence that’s spreading among web users. From game disputes that lead to player vs player scenarios in real life to chatroom disputes that lead to real life fighting, humans are just aggressive and violent in nature I suppose. The latest shocking news is of a man getting his throat slit over a chatroom argument, why the attacker acted in this way over online chatting? Go figure, the world is filled with nuts, and they are growing by number everyday. now on to the article shall we?

“HE had an argument with a man in an online chatroom.

So 47-year-old Paul Gibbons attacked Mr John Jones with a pickaxe handle and knife, slitting his throat in what’s dubbed as Britain’s first ‘web rage’ attack.

He had traced Mr Jones to his house because the latter had posted personal details about himself online.

Mr Jones, 43, had also used his real name when participating in a Yahoo! chatroom dedicated to Islam, where he met Gibbons, reported The Times.

Yesterday, Gibbons, of southeast London, pleaded guilty and was convicted.

He will be sentenced next month.

The court heard that Gibbons, who has a string of previous convictions for violence and weapons offences, located his victim’s home address in Essex using electoral records.

Gibbons, who used the username Pastordevil, had argued about Muslims and the war on Iraq with Mr Jones through the chatroom.

He then accused the father of three of being a paedophile and told other chatroom users of his plans for revenge.

On 26 Dec last year, Mr Jones asked Gibbons to meet to sort things out, but the latter didn’t turn up.

Two days later, Gibbons arrived at Mr Jones’ house with a pickaxe handle.

Mr Jones was working on his computer while two of his children were just outside playing.

His wife was taking a bath and the youngest child was asleep.

He was pushed to the floor and beaten with the pickaxe handle.

MISSED VEIN

Then his throat was slit from his Adam’s apple to his ear, narrowly missing the jugular vein.

Mr Jones’ wife then emerged from the bathroom and screamed for help, causing Gibbons to flee.

Hours after the assault, Gibbons, who also used the user names Exudes, Devilishness and Pastordevil-tard-killer, logged on and boasted to a chatroom friend: ‘I had his knife at his throat. He was screaming in fear. He never stood a chance. Jones was freaked.’

Police arrested Gibbons on 11 Jan and seized the computer from the flat where he lived alone.

Now, the UK police have warned Internet users to protect their real identities.

P/S: NEVER REVEAL YOUR TRUE INDENTITY. REVEAL IT AT YOUR OWN RISK…”
