Dream Catcher

dreamcatcher

I was in KL over the weekend, hence the lack of posts over the past few days. I went to One Utama to meet up with some uni friends and happened to see this red indian performing some traditional musical instruments and promoting some classical indian music CDs, musical instruments and the all famous Dream Catcher. Those who love Stephen King novels will be familiar with the book and movie of the same name. The Dream Catcher is made of sinew strands tied around a frame in a web like pattern. Native american indians used these Dream Catchers as charms to protect little children from nightmares.

indian side
Pocahontas anyone?

The Dream Catcher is tied in a web shape with a larger hole in the middle. The web is supposed to stop bad dreams and nightmares from passing through and the hole in the middle is the passage that allows the good dreams to pass through, sort of like a sieve or filter of sorts. There are many patterns to the Dream Catcher and if only I had more cash on me I would have bought one. It would still make as a nice decoration even if you do not believe in the legend of the Dream Catcher.

Credit card woes

March 22nd, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Chronicles

I’m sure most people nowadays have at least one credit card. Credit cards are good and bad, it can mislead you to overspend, but then again they can come in handy when you run out of notes and for that occasional online transaction. Applying for one is fairly easy nowadays too, now I’m not too into credit cards so I’m not that sure how different each bank’s cards are, but one bank in particular has presented itself to me as the most idiotic and lousy out of all the banks I’ve used before. It’s a big name, well established, international and all, and I’m sure some of you will disagree with me when I mention the name, brace yourselves, this bank is none other than Standard Chartered.

Shoutbox up!

March 13th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Chronicles

Rejoice! My shoutbox is finally up, after searching for a suitable solution for implementing my shoutbox, from DIY codes to plugins, I finally settled on the Wordspew plugin by Jalenack. Unfortunately from his blog, he mentioned that he is no longer actively developing this plugin. However from what I tested out, it seems to serve well as a simple and easily customizable shoutbox, recommended for any bloggers who wants to have their own shoutbox. Installation is as easy as uploading the files to your Wordpress plugin folder, activating it and placing a snippet in the area where you want the shoutbox to appear. The rest is CSS to control the way the shoutbox looks, there’s even some options you can control from the Wordpress admin panel, such as the color of the fade in when a new message has been posted, the color of the name, for further styling you really need to get your hands dirty with some CSS. But hey, if you can manage to make your own Wordpress theme, styling this box should be simple, in fact it should still be fairly simple for bloggers with not much CSS experience.

Well now I hope this shoutbox will be put to good use. Happy shouting people :)

Yet another missing

March 10th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Chronicles

I was just wondering whether the mails I receive about the missing people (normally girls) are true or just a hoax? If it’s true then I believe that it is no longer safe in this country to leave your daughter or even yourself alone in quiet places where nobody is around, just to prevent your face showing up in the next missing peoples’ email I receive. If it’s a hoax then we have some very naughty pranksters on our hands.

Well anyway, below is the mail that I just received this morning:

Dear all

My colleague, Mr How Kim Seng’s daughter was missing while shopping with her mum since last Friday 2/3/2007.

She is an autistic child and later developed into schizophrenia. Please help to forward this news to your friends and contacts you know, she may be in danger if fall into a wrong hand.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance. God bless

Sincere regards

Site 24×7

March 6th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Chronicles

site stats
A detailed site statistic report from Site 24×7 about your site uptime and downtime.

A week ago my friend and fellow blogger Boon introduced me to this web service Site 24×7, which will actively track your website uptime and downtime 24hours a day 365 days a year (hence the name).

It just recently launched it’s paid service, but the free service will remain albeit with some limitations as usual, but exactly what kind of limitations I am not entirely sure. Well after registering and logging in, you have the option to set how frequently your site/s should be checked, and the type of alert you would like to receive, email or sms. I’ve received their email alerts so far, but not their sms alert, my guess is that is the limitation for the free service, as previously when I registered it was still in beta, so could not really tell the difference.

It’s quite a good service as you can determine how often you website is down and choose a webhost with better uptimes (webhosts look out if you don’t work on your downtimes per day), any webmaster should have the privilege of knowing their websites’ uptime and downtimes, and with Site 24×7 webmasters have this edge with them now and are not doomed to suffer from bad webhosting services (not pointing fingers at anyone, you should know it yourself and better work to improve on it if you want your customers to remain). So if you’re serious about webmastering and raising your site rankings then register an account with 24×7 today and ditch those lousy webhosts that just know how to give excuses (again not pointing fingers at anyone). Try it, I’m sure you won’t regret it. :)

How wise is your wisdom tooth?

March 6th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Chronicles

Some people have them, some people don’t, they’re the third molars (or in layman terms ‘Wisdom teeth”) right at the back of our mouths, the big teeth that you use to grind food with. Yes they are big, strong, hard to reach, and potentially unwise despite their given names. Under normal circumstances these supposedly wise teeth will grow out of order, position and persist to grow even if there’s not enough space in your jaw (oh now you wonder why it’s called wisdom teeth), and in rare circumstances it will just pop out nicely like the rest of your other nicely grown teeth (that’s it it’s not decayed). Haha ok, perhaps the earlier description of rare and normal circumstances should be turned around, but hey, mine turned out to be dis positioned and having a lack of space to grow which is normal since I’m normal, so sue me :P.

Outside
The ‘wise one’ in halves.

Savage Garden - Affirmation

March 2nd, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in English Songs

I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people’s hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it’s bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I’m loved when I’m completely by myself alone

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can’t appreciate real love ’til you’ve been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye

I believe you can’t control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can’t appreciate real love ’til you’ve been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye

I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse tv evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can’t appreciate real love ’til you’ve been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye(Repeat 2)
