Birthday celebration!

Birthday

It’s another year, another birthday, and this year I have a group of nice and fun colleagues to celebrate with(including my boss of course)! I guess what makes work tolerable is the people around you, in my previous company, the colleagues, although not to say weren’t friendly, however they were not that close, it’s probably cause there are already ‘gangs’ among them. Of course I had a previous ‘gang’ of colleagues as well, but somehow the chemistry just din mix that well.

World Music Festival 2008 - Day 1

worldMusicFestivalDay10055.jpg

The World Music Festival 2008, was held in Penang’ Botanic Garden quarry,a yearly event which gathers world renowned musicians from around the world, very colorful and enjoyable. This year’s festival was said to have attracted over 5000 spectators!

It’s my first time attending this wonderful event, and lucky it did not rain as it did last year, which would have been a bummer for us photographers. The experience was just wonderful, and I had the opportunity to capture lots of wonderful shots of the performances, I would like to thanks Arden for this opportunity for bringing me and a group of other photographers in as official photographers, and yeah this means we get to go up close to the stage to take our shots! I look forward to next year, and hope we get the chance to be official photographers again! Till then do enjoy the photos from day 1 of this three day event!

worldMusicFestivalDay30026.jpg

I saw these two gals sitting patiently awaiting for the World Music Festival to begin, the balloons behind them with the event name printed on them makes a good identifier of the event they are attending.

Tip: It is sometimes a good idea to look out for identifying items at an event to include in your composition, this allows the viewer to know where the photo was taken, giving it some identity.

Tip: Use a big aperture to get a shallow depth of field, be sure to get the focus point correct though, or risk blurring out your subject as well

A garden butterfly taking a rest from a hard day’s work, a rather plain shot, if only I had my macro lens at that time.

Tip: It takes patience and a little luck to find and get the creepy crawlies at the right time and right place, of course use a macro lens should you have one.

Dawn from the office library, and also my first attempt to put together a HDR image, the results are not spectacular since I I did artificially using one image with different exposure settings, but it’s a start.

Tip: Shoot a few exposures at different exposures, use a tripod to make sure the images can align properly in a stack when combining the image.

The Nuffies at Nuffnang’s one year old birthday bash, it was a fun filled party by bloggers for bloggers!

Tip: You’ll need to use high ISO, and an external flash for indoor scenes (especially at night), try to find a surface to bounce your flash off to avoid harsh shadow and highlights.

Another shot from the Malaysian International Fireworks Competition 2007, it was an excellent display of colors and skill.

Tip: Use a steady tripod, pre-focus on a distant object while anticipating for the fireworks to go off, use long exposures of 5 seconds or BULB mode, use a small aperture and low ISO.
