I’ll also be starting a photo a day routine to keep myself more disciplined in updating my blog, so stay tuned for a new chapter in my chronicle! Of course, thank you all for your support thus far, it really means a lot to me :)

Dawn of a New Age

March 11th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Chronicles

New age for Penang

The Malaysian elections has ended, results are out, and the outcome is just beyond expectations! 5 states have received favor from the opposition, which includes Penang, Selangor, Kelantan,, Kedah and Perak. The impact of this round’s elections is no doubt huge, even affecting the Malaysian Stock Market!

What lies ahead for Malaysia will be revealed soon as the respective Chief Ministers are sworn in and the new government is formed! Penang has already made their first step when the new CM Lim Guan Eng announced waivers for summonses involving hawker licences and parking offences issued before March 11. Lim also promised that open tenders will be held for all state government procurement and contracts, adding that an online portal will be set up where information on tender bids would be posted for all to see.

Elsewhere in PAS led Kedah, changes may or may not be favourable to the people as hotels and entertainment outlets are already making “adjustments” they deem necessary to suit the unprecedented political environment here. Will the state take on a Muslim oriented ‘makeover’? Some Chinese traders are confident that nothing much will be changed.

Whatever the changes may be, it will be something fresh to look forward to, let’s hope the wisemen of our country have learned something from this election, and start doing more RIGHT and give the people a better life! Let’s hope Malaysia Boleh! this time round!

Shaken

February 20th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Chronicles

Just a few hours earlier, at around 4:30pm I suddenly felt dizzy while reading a document in the office, which I thought was some side effect of the medication I just ate, but the next moment my colleague came up to me and asked “Did you feel the building shaking?”, my reaction was “Huh? Really”, then after some thought I realized that’s why I suddenly felt dizzy, it wasn’t my problem it was the building!

In moments we were all asked to leave the building for safety purposes, and apparently the tremor was quite strong as some of my other colleagues were shaken up, for me, I guess the tremor was absorbed straight into my body which shook my head up, causing a strong dizziness. Later it was revealed that there was an earthquake scaling 7.5 on the Richter scale in Banda Acheh about an hour before it hit our shores. I was thinking if we could feel it quite strongly over here, which is like some 500km away from the quake, the situation at the location of the quake would be devastating, heck I might not be able to write about it right now either.

Well it’s been some years since we last felt a tremor, guess this is good to remind us of how lucky we are in Malaysia, which is free of virtually all the devastating natural disasters, except for floods that is, which can get quite bad around certain parts of the country. Let’s all pray that the people over at Banda Acheh are safe and that casualties are low this time round, and thank God that we are all safe over here in Malaysia!

Problematic drivers

February 2nd, 2008 | 8 Comments | Posted in Chronicles

Driving on the road can be a challenge at times, and a test of patience as well. I’m sure those of you who drive everyday will know what I mean.

I’ve met some ‘interesting’ drivers on the road, some are just plain irritating, others however are nearing idiocy. Below are the few types of drivers I’ve encountered:

  • The slow driver who is either afraid of speed or don’t know what the accelerator pedal is for and will just drive at speeds of 20-40km/h even when there’s absolutely no other vehicles in front.
  • The sleeping beauty at the traffic light who probably has fallen asleep while the light is red or has reaction times of a slug that takes forever to get the line moving when the light turns green. Even worse is they only start to move when the light turns amber to red.
  • The lost driver who does not even know which lane to take and either stays in the middle of two lanes, or takes the inner lane then cuts in and out trying to cause accidents.
  • The snail at the curb driver who turns at junctions at a slug’s pace and causes jams or the opportunity to turn to be lost to other unfortunate drivers behind them.
  • The idiot overtaker who will stop at nothing to overtake you even though it will get them to their destination no faster as the front is all jammed up!

I suppose there are still lots of other types of drivers around, do share your experiences with such ‘interesting’ drivers!

Alright, after a long wait, I finally had my snorkeling photos developed and scanned in, the results were better than I’d expected, but that’s not to say each photo is excellent, there are a few personal favourites of my own and I hope you like the photos as much as I do. Oh, if you would be so kind as to let me know your opinions and which one is your favourite I’d be ever so grateful. Alright now, on to the photos:

The UV man

UV Man

The UV Man as named, the poor dude is lacking some color here, will post one with textures painted in later, oh then I can’t call him the UV Man anymore, since he has colors painted on already. Haha, oh well, this guy is the product of going through a set of gnomon video tutorials, sweet, my first low poly model. Had to start somewhere sometime, somehow his face turned out to look a bit like Arnold Schwaznagger, believe me, that was not intended at all, but well kinda cool though. Now let’s see, who shall I model next……

Core 2 has landed

September 20th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Chronicles

componentsCore 2 has landed!! Ya it’s old news, the damn thing was launced like two months ago, but well for me it has just landed, straight from US to the shores of Penang, Malaysia. This is the first time I bought something off the internet, and it ain’t some small and cheap accessory, luckily it arrived in one piece, haha call me paranoid but I think it’s normal for first time online purchasers. The packaging of the Core 2 Duo is just gorgeous, nice metal textured box makes the whole package looks high tech and stylish. Now that the brain of the computer has arrived, I can start hunting for the rest of the body to house this baby.

componentsAh yes let’s not forget this baby as well, the graphics card, got this baby from US of A as well, last I checked no local vendors are carrying it yet, though it’s not the top of the line card but I’m pretty much happy with it. In fact this is even more expensive than the brain of my new rig, scary ain’t it, and the packaging to my opinion is not as classy as the cheaper priced ‘brain’ either. For a 2k+ graphics card you’d expect some cool games or accessories to come together with it right? Sad to say though that workstation class cards only give you what’s necessary to start working on it, and thus this big box only contains the drivers CD, two dvi converters and the card itself, even the manual is not printed out for you! Talk about a rip off, hope the performance lives up to the price they charge. We’ll just have to see how it pairs up with Intel’s latest processor.

componentsGetting anxious to getting my new rig up and running, and the price of ram just had to rise at this time, talk about bad luck. Should I wait for prices to drop and for my components to age or should I just shell out the few hundred bucks to get it up running as soon as possible? Then there’s the issue of motherboards, which brand and model should I get, currently have two boards in mind, but still considering which to get between the Asus P5B Deluxe or the Gigabyte DQ6. I’m leaning more towards the Gigabyte board though, but I’ve never used a Gigabyte board before, which brings about the insecurity of it’s quality over Asus which I’ve been using for my past two rigs without a problem, and they’re still running nicely. Anyhow, here’s the stuff I’ve got so far, just the ‘brain’ and the ‘eye’(can the graphics card be considered as the eye of the computer or should that be the monitor?) and the rest hoping to get by next week, hope they have stocks.

Money, root of all evil?

September 20th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Chronicles

MoneyMoney, an ingeneous invention created by man a long time ago to replace the barter system to better carry out trading. An invention meant to help the progress of man and make humanity prosper in their lives has somewhat become the root of all evil today. The existence of money has denied many people their necessities in life such as food, water and shelter, our ancestors did not need money to go hunting, they did not need money to find shelter and build a home for themselves. Nowadays people die starving on the street because they dun have some pieces of paper or pieces of alloy.

No doubt the invention of money has brought humanity a great deal of benefits but together with it are adverse effects as well, thefts, robbery and all sorts of crime has risen because of money. Put in the hands of the naturally greedy humans, they just want more of it everyday, and so the rich becomes richer and the poor becomes poorer by the day. This situation will only drive people into committing crimes in order to survive, but still there are people who do it just out of greed and wanting MORE MONEY! Injuring and killing innocent people who have earned their money through hard work. An injustice leads to another, and so goes the cycle of evil caused by the root of all evil - MONEY.

The Omen

September 18th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Chronicles

It’s past midnight, feeling kind of tired, eyes are a bit stingy as well, but somehow I’m still not asleep and writing this post. Guess I’m making a point to update my new blog more frequently now, which should be a good thing right?

Anyway, I just finished watching The Omen. Hmmm…. what can I say about the movie, it’s not per se a very scary movie, the scares are almost non-existent, some parts feel like it’s a documentary of sorts, but the overall story does bring a chill down my spine. Imagine if the story was true, then I’d say the ‘plan’ is already set in motion and in ways is succeeding. The setting is all correct, the natural disasters, bringing man against his brothers in war, and bringing about apocalypse in the ultimate end.

Though not a scary movie, the idea is very real and scary, for the believers I guess they see it even more clearly, well if it is true, what can each of us do to stop it? Or are we helpless to just bear witness to our own doom? A thought for everyone to ponder on and perhaps realise that all the wars and hatred around the world is not benefiting anyone in the end, but then again, will man ever learn……?
